shake it!

vera • September 14th, 2007

Did some fun tests today: a) Find out which sound frequencies hazelnuts like! b) Break a propeller!

The propeller is the starting point for a small series of collectables we want to make; technology bits in small caskets. And the hazelnuts… one day they´ll dance with you and maybe even massage your feet afterwards!

Is there a Video of the shaking nuts? Sounds interessting to me. Maybe some kind of offline Granular-Synthesis?

Thanks! Granular synthesis is a good keyword, because indeed it needs multiple short impulses to keep them shake over a few seconds. My intention is to create rhythmic patterns and percussive music with this natural chattering of hazelnuts, and then hopefully add an interactive part up to it. I only did a very small clip with my phone yesterday where probably the camera shakes more than the nuts. I´ll go on with it during the next days and post it when i got news!
